TOYOTA SAFETY SENSETM (TSS)

Together we can help make the road safer.

The road can be unpredictable. That's why we created available Toyota Safety SenseTM 8: to help keep you safe from harm. This newly developed active safety package combines Pre-Collision System 5 with Pedestrian Detection, 9 Lane Departure Alert, 4 Auto High Beams 6and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control 7 to help assist you. By working together, the systems help address three key areas of accident protection: preventing or mitigating frontal collisions, keeping drivers within their lane, and enhancing road safety during nighttime driving. Combined, these features create in-the-moment safety designed to support your awareness and decision-making on the road.


Pre-Collision System (PCS)

Using a forward-facing radar and camera that scans the road ahead, this intuitive system helps you to avoid a potential collision in certain situations. 5 When a potential collision is detected, you are alerted with audible and visual warnings, and brake assistance is automatically activated. If you do not apply the brakes, and the system determines the collision is unavoidable, the brakes are automatically engaged.




Lane Departure Alert (LDA)

Lane Departure Alert 4 is designed to help you stay in your lane and help keep you safe from harm. Using a specialized camera, the system can detect the painted lane markings on the road and will alert you if you start to drift out of your lane. An audible beeping sound and indicator light on the instrument panel will flash so that you can then take corrective action.


Auto High Beams (AHB)

Auto High Beams allow 6 for better visibility, making nighttime driving safer for everyone. Using a camera to detect oncoming vehicles' headlights, Auto High Beams can switch between high and low beams for you.


Pedestrian Detection (PD)

Pedestrian Detection 9 helps keep the road safer for everyone by detecting pedestrians under certain conditions. By combining millimeter-wave radar with a camera capable of shape recognition, Pedestrian Detection's audible warning and display notification will alert you of a possible collision with a pedestrian. If you don't react, automatic braking and collision-avoidance support is then given to help prevent a collision from happening.


Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control 7 works like conventional cruise control, but can do even more. Using forward-sensing radar technology and a camera, the system can detect the speed and distance of the vehicle ahead of yours in certain situations and adjust your speed accordingly. In traffic, it can help maintain a preset following distance, then accelerate back to your original cruising speed when the road clears.

    When equipped and enabled, if the system determines that the vehicle is on a path to unintentionally depart from its lane, the system may provide small corrective steering inputs to the steering wheel for a short period of time to help the driver keep the vehicle in its lane.
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB) 6
    When enabled, Automatic High Beams use an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically switch between high and low beams as appropriate to provide the most light possible and enhance forward visibility.
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
    Designed to function at approximately 0 to 110 mph, Full-Speed Range DRCC may enable low-speed following, speed matching, stopping and acceleration/deceleration to a preceding vehicle.
